Novel UV to mid-IR transmitting material for fibers and optics
Elliot Scientific Ltd. - Harpenden, UK – have signed an agreement with iRphotonics, Hamden USA - the leading designer and manufacturer of materials and systems for infrared applications, to exclusively distribute the iGuide™ range of advanced fiber optic products within the UK and Ireland.
iRphotonics™ use a ground-breaking patented fluoridation process that allows for the production of glass and optical fiber with exceptional optical and mechanical properties. Transmitting light from the UV to the mid-infrared, the iGuide™ range is ideal for incorporation into a wide range of multi-spectral applications in all areas industrial, medical or scientific.
From the typical; such as beam delivery and surgery, to the exotic; like infrared counter measures and astronomy, an iGuide™ fiber or lens will play an important part. The benefits that iGuide™ products can bring to the fields of spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, fibre lasers and amplifiers, diagnostics and analysis are innumerable, both in terms of cost and performance.
With a broad range of products that encompass single and multimode fibers, high power beam delivery versions and the special II-V™ fiber that offers transmission from 0.4 to 5.5 µm with low attenuation and no spectral absorption peak, iRphotonics™ are truly leaders in this field. Doped fiber is also available, off the shelf or composed with customer specified dopant mixes and concentrations to meet the requirements of the fiber laser and amplifier designer.
Optical blanks formed from the same iGuide™ material can also be supplied to bring performance benefits to the lens designer – UV to mid-IR transmission with an ease of manufacturability that shows that Calcium Fluoride is last-century technology. Mouldable into standard or aspheric pre-forms, iGuide™ UVIR™ glass can be ground and polished in the traditional way or diamond turned for quicker production at lower cost.
